Collaboration is fundamental to our approach and values. Our cornerstone partnership is with ICT, formerly Indian Country Today, the largest Indigenous news source in the U.S., in which we oversee two joint full-time reporters through cost-sharing agreements. ICT disseminates our work to its extensive national audiences, and both organizations share expertise and editorial insights through weekly meetings and regular communication.

We also share the costs of one reporter with Report for America, a national public service journalism organization.

In addition to our independent reporting, we collaborate with other news organizations, leveraging resources and expertise to allow us and partner organizations to pursue reporting that we can’t do alone. This collaborative approach also helps foster a more robust and equitable media ecosystem in the Pacific Northwest that better serves Indigenous communities.

Co-reporting partners include:

Our reporters are featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting, including multiple appearances on Think Out Loud and Morning Edition, and staff has made TV appearances on KOIN, both through live interviews and a profile about Underscore.

We also have partnerships with other organizations in which we promote each other and celebrate each other’s mission and work, including:

Regional, National and Global Audiences

We also partner with other publications to disseminate our work and amplify its reach and impact. Our journalism has been republished in more 50 outlets across the U.S. and beyond, while being featured or referenced in others, including The New York Times’ Local Journalism Worth Reading from 2023 compilation.

Republishing partners range from major metro dailies and NPR affiliates to national aggregators such as MSN and Yahoo News to rural newspapers, as well as more than a dozen tribal and Indigenous-focused outlets. This is part of our goal to amplify Indigenous voices, issues and perspectives on a mass scale to diverse audiences.
